Debbie from Nurses Next Door is just lovely. Very kind, patient and understanding. She had gone out of her way to help me and make me feel comfortable as well as help with things that my support coordinator could be doing. She has contacted my GP herself for prescriptions and followed up on other needs.

What a great idea, it has been needed for a long time. I have been doing aged care 20years, my family didn’t put my sister in a residential as we looked after her. I see so many people who do not need to be in residential with all the red tape. I have helped my nextdoor neighbours to get assistance at home. Wow keep up the good work.

It is hard to really describe just what a blessing Kristy's appearance in our lives was. I think many people will relate to the experience of thinking their parents are going along just fine and managing life to suddenly realize that they are not. Dad had been a central person in the extended family, making it his mission to look after everyone and help wherever he could. He'd been doing this for years and I think we all just felt he would go on forever. I was interstate and visiting regularly but probably always seeing him and mum at their best. It seemed a sudden decline when mum rang in tears to say that dad was struggling but in reality, it was a gradual decline over many months. Dad ultimately had a few weeks in hospital and then rehab. During this time, it became very obvious that in order for dad to come home he and mum were going to need help. This was a confronting prospect for a couple that had always managed everything on their own. Mum in particular is very private and quite shy and it was important to find someone with whom she in particular would feel comfortable sharing the very personal experience of caring for her husband. In my initial phone call to Kristy, I explained the situation and she understood immediately what I meant. From the moment she walked in the door to meet Mum and Dad it was so obvious she was perfect. With many years of experience nursing people at their most vulnerable, plus a good country upbringing, Kristy had incredible intuition, empathy and an ability to read people and situations. Mum was immediately, at ease and Dad was chatting away to her like she was a long-lost friend. These incredible personal qualities continued to shine through over the next few months. For both Mum and Dad Kristy became a trusted friend and helped both mum and Dad live their best lives together. Dad was always treated with great respect and kindness and endless patience. On the days when Kristy was not on duty, dad would tell us we were doing pretty well, but not as well as Kristy. This was always followed be a little chuckle. Kristy it was the small things you did that made the difference. Those cups of tea and coffee, taking the dog for a little walk when mum was too exhausted to manage and the long discussions about AFL with dad that just helped so much during such difficult times. You made our lives so much better. Leaders set the tone and culture of a community. Kristy's leadership is marked by compassion and humility and a real love for helping people. Her team at Nurse Next Door are lucky to have her and by example they too have the qualities that matter. We miss dad enormously but so grateful to you Kristy for all you did for him and mum. To anyone out there needing help, I can't recommend Kristy and her team highly enough.

We have been with Nurse Next Door for 2 years since they were able to bring Mum home from hospital after a fall during the Covid Lockdowns. They have become more than carers (although they are a help with some of her housework) they are now friends. They chat with her and take her places which she loves, even getting up early to take her to the balloons! As I am in Melbourne it is a great comfort to know there is someone there with her everyday.

Use this list to help you decide if continuous monitoring is something you should consider:

  • The person doesn’t sleep through the night (or gets up more than 2-3 times per night).
  • The person has difficulty moving around and is at a high risk of falls.
